PATIENT CARE TEAM AND HEALTH SYSTEMS

What is a circulator? What does a respiratory therapist do? And exactly what is bed placement? Medical school does a great job of explaining the intricacies of the human body but does little to prepare students to navigate the inner workings of a hospital. The Patient Care Team and Health Systems Section will give you an overview of the various people you will encounter in the hospital, saving you (hopefully) from that awkward conversation where you have to ask someone “Uh… what do you do?” This Section will also cover the behind-the-scenes aspects of the hospital and address the business-oriented approach towards making people healthy again. We will also cover what must happen in order for your patient to make it from the front doors of the Emergency Department to discharge (whether they depart the hospital in a car or a hearse).
